In the 1940s, they used to call Tommy Dorsey the "sentimental
gentleman". In a now-bygone era, Dorsey would charm listeners with melodic and exciting arrangements, music rhythmic enough for dancefloors and introspective enough for consideration on your home hi-fi. Jonny Dillon, appearing at WR as Automatic Tasty, could be considered the sentimental gentleman of today's bedroom electronic music scene. Bringing out superbly well-produced braindance with all the style and panache of a big-bandleader like Dorsey, Automatic Tasty makes music that is both suitable for a club environment and a quieter home listening environment. On Speech & Silence, simply beautiful sections of chords and melodies weave effortlessly over to-the-point drum machine beats, and Dillon's talent for warm analog electronics couldn't be clearer. Already boasting an impressive back catalog of releases on labels like Lunar Disko, Acroplane and The Centrifuge, Automatic Tasty's contribution to the WR catalog is an essential recording for any fan of nostalgia, melodic electronic music and cassettes - which is to say just about anybody. Speech & Silence is an absolutely lovely album that will appeal to everyone.
